What’s Flow Breathwork?

Breathwork is an ancient practice utilized by many indigenous cultures and some form of breathwork has existed in every corner of the world for centuries. As many have adapted and built upon breathwork practices, we’ve lost much of the cultural and indigenous roots the practices from which the practices derive. You may hear of breathwork under many trademarked names that refer to this ancient practice.

We’ll train in a unique style of breathwork adapted by Shanila Sattar: FLOW Breathwork. It is a blend of ancient breathwork, movement, energy healing, the elements, and embodiment informed by studies in wisdom traditions. It’s truly the most potent form of somatic healing that lets you tap into both the masculine and feminine energies in the body.

This training heavily focuses on acknowledging and honoring the roots of the practice, learning about the physical science behind breathwork, touches upon the woo and spiritual aspects, provides a supportive container for deep healing, and prepares you to become a conscious, mindful, breathwork facilitator. This training is catered to those looking to learn applied breathwork techniques for practical and everyday use.

Flow Breathwork Facilitator training is highly decolonized with a BIPOC lens, empowers you to both become a facilitator within your community, and receive deep healing for yourself on your personal growth journey.

Flow Breathwork Method

Breath

It all begins with the breath - the precious gift of life. We use the breath to guide our journey, connect with a three-part circular breath, and begin to create expansiveness within.

Movement

Calling in feminine energy to the practice, we move! The body transmutes the breath into a dance, awakening stagnant energies, releasing old patterning, and bringing a sense of freedom, confidence, and knowing. Somatic Experiencing, emotional releases, and intuition awaken.

Energy

As we activate, we hone in on tools in energy healing, art of touch, elements, and begin to access, harness, and flow with potent energetic bodies supported by the breath.

Embodiment

Walk the walk, talk the talk. Embody the practice for yourself through deep inner healing, conscious awareness, integration, and build your confidence as a Flow Breathwork Facilitator!

  • To complete your certification in 3 months, you’ll spend about 7 hours/week.

To complete your certification in 6 months, you’ll spend about 3 hours/week.

  • We’ll train in a unique style of breathwork I’ve adapted and created, FLOW Breathwork. It is a blend of ancient breathwork, movement, energy healing, the elements, and dance. It’s truly the most potent form of somatic healing that lets you tap into both the masculine and feminine energies in the body.

Level 1 focuses on a 3-part breath that is done through the mouth. This style of breathing is known under many different names, but is an ancient style of breathing that's been used for thousands of years. This two part inhale, and one part exhale, and a bit of somatic movement will be the main style of breathwork we will focus on practicing.

We’ll briefly cover several styles of breathwork that are both for activating the body and calming the body.

  • After completing your required attending and facilitating hours, and submitting your evaluation, you can facilitate breathwork sessions for your community.

You’ll lead transformational Flow Breathwork sessions for your clients and support many on their healing journey.

  • We have taken great care in creating this course to be trauma informed and participate in continuous education for ourselves and revaluation of our materials that help keep this container safe, supportive, and with love.

As the nature of trauma is complex and multi-directional, we remain continuous students to improve our lens.

  • Trauma is heavily processed through breathwork and Flow Breathwork Facilitator trainings. As breathwork is a complex somatic healing tool, it’s expected that somatic releases, such as trauma may arise.

However, the beginner's level course is to give you the foundational skills you need to facilitate breathwork and deepen your own practice. It is highly recommended for you to keep up with trainings and teachings that help further develop you as a conscious breathwork facilitator, including but not limited to trauma informed trainings, conscious facilitation, decolonizing your wellness practice, and more, long after the certification is completed.

It’s recommended to have a support system where you are able to further integrate the journey that takes place within the container.

  • Why we teach from a Black, Indigenous, People of Color lens:

All healing spaces are not created equal and must consider the intersectional experiences of facilitators and participants.

Underrepresented, marginalized, and underserved communities often lack resources and proper training for wellness practitioners.

Bypassing lived and cultural experiences lead to unnecessary harm that’s often ignored or suppressed in many wellness spaces.

  • Flow Breathwork Facilitator Training (Level 1) is curated to help you become a breathwork facilitator after completing the course, fulfilling practicum hours, and evaluation. This is a comprehensive study in Flow Breathwork and preps you to begin practicing as a confident practitioner.

Deepening the Practice: Flow Breathwork Facilitator Training (Level 2) is only offered privately and is for facilitators wanting to learn how to deepen their practices and expand the business elements. Level 2 is focused expanding upon the solid foundations set in Level 1, expand movement, and is intended to take practitioners to the next level, both internally and out.

Pre-requisite to Level 2: Flow Breathwork Facilitator Training (Level 1) and completed hours are required to attend Level 2.

    _______________

As part of our lens in decolonizing wellness, Level 1 gives you all the tools to be an incredible breathwork facilitator. There is no expectation for you to complete Level 2 in order to be an effective and conscious practitioner. Additional levels are not required but are recommended to further deepen your practice and studies as it aligns for your personal intentions.

  • Absolutely. This training is curated to be a healing container. You are more than welcomed to join even if you aren't looking to facilitate breathwork. People have joined to enhance their own knowledge of self-healing modalities, understanding of energy, build confidence as a practitioner, and elevate curiosity, without intention to become a facilitator for others. This training will enhance your own breathwork practice.

  • No. Flow Breathwork Facilitator Training is a unique method and methodology that was created with great intention and purpose. There is intentionality in the way the foundation is set and allows us to build upon concepts, techniques, materials, and confidence. It’s a huge distraction to our container to re-teach materials that were not covered in your former training.

In order to come into Level 2, please complete requirements for Level 1 first.

  • As with any practice, being a student is important. Attending classes and integrating your own experiences are important. If you have no experience with breathwork and aren't sure about attending, please come to our classes on Sundays 7pm CT (inside The Breathwork Club where many of our breathwork facilitators teach) to dive in before joining the trainings or pick classes from our on-demand library of breathwork videos.

However, prior experience is not required, but suggested in order to understand what you’re getting a certification in.

  • Yes. This 3 month immersion is a different curriculum, support, and community. You are welcome to join the immersion and continue your studies.

  • Although breathwork is safe for pregnancy and many doulas and nurses come through the training for this reason, this particular training is not for those who are pregnant due to the intensive and virtual nature of our practices.

We recommend that you attend breathwork sessions and keep up with your own practice, and consider facilitator training at another time in the future.

About your teacher

Hi, I’m Shanila.

I’m the Founder of Flow Breathwork Facilitator Training and The Healing Arts Academy,, best-selling author of Breathe, a 4th generation sound healer, women’s researcher, national speaker, and host of a Top 6 podcast, The Playground, a community for healers and healing.

I’m interested in decolonized wellness, supporting conscious facilitators to put in real applied work in the wellness industry, and have a real world approach to my life’s work. I created Flow Breathwork Facilitator training from a need for a BIPOC lens and appreciation for wisdom traditions where many of our practices derive from. I’ve created my trainings with the vision of honoring the lineages of where our practices come from, learn the science, and have the uncomfortable inequality conversations around health and wellness. My mission is that we are all able to have access and knowledge of the healing tools that help heal us from the inside out.

I’m committed to support healers, coaches, and wellness professionals putting in the applied healing work in communities and spaces where it can make an impact. I practice integrative wellness - considering a person's emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. I love to mix the science and the woo in my practice and hope that I’m able to reach people who may feel that wellness is inaccessible to them, especially in underrepresented, underserved, and marginalized communities.

My background is in tech, having co-founded an award winning web agency, and in women’s research, specifically in mindsets, implicit bias, perfectionism, women's health, and societal experiences supported through the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Health, and several universities. I’m one of the first practitioners to receive grants to support clinical population with sound baths, breathwork, and holistic modalities, and with that support, have been able to implement low cost wellness offerings, programs in women’s shelters, veteran’s legions, and community offerings to help close the wellness accessibility gap.

I’m looking forward to taking this journey with ya.

Love from our Students

10/10. I took a while to do this course and finish certification because I took time for my own healing. I watched this training get more and more supportive for healers with everything AlwaysPlay Studios has added to it over the years. I feel so much confidence in myself and I learned a lot about MYSELF on my path to being a good facilitator for others. I love the women I met from the training and some of them have become very good friends. That's my favorite part on top of everything else I loved!

— Janaae Rictor

My favorite part of training with Shanila is the ongoing support she provides. She really want to see us succeed. She speaks with enthusiasm and energy that's unmatched. If you ask for the help, you will get it. I feel so much more confident as a facilitator in all my work because of it, not just breathwork. She's provided service and support beyond what I expected. I'm so glad I jumped into this training!

— Sarah M.

Top to bottom amazing. When I tell you I went on a whole journey with this training. I came in wanting to better myself as a practitioner and take my clients to the next level with breathwork which I was already doing. What I got out of the training is that but also a really deep connection to myself as a practitioner. I faced a lot of deep wounds that helped me become even more aware of my gifts and prepared me to be a better practitioner in so many ways. I couldn't make it to the support calls but always watched on the replay. I know I'm supported.

— H

Shanila is a fantastic teacher, so knowledgable both scientifically and spiritually. She merges the two beautifully. I left the course feeling knowledgeable and empowered myself. I would recommend Shanila in an absolute heartbeat.

— Alice

Shanila is such a rock star in this space. As a 20 year veteran of the yoga and healing world, it is refreshing and restores my faith in this path after participating in her breathwork training. She has the wisdom and doesn't shy away from the important topics of cultural appropriation and spiritual bypassing in her trainings. She is BIPOC-friendly. A true healer and incredible teacher!

— Sheel

Shanila was an amazing facilitator for breath work training. I had been looking for someone I felt energetically pulled to- and I fell upon her and her healing community! I’m so glad I took this course- it was so interactive and I met so many amazing women. Transformational for sure. And I felt supported through the process. worth beyond the investment!!

— Erin
